Jo Davis, Editor, & Public
Officer Ø
“Hi,
my name is Jo Davis and I have been a member of
Hoofbeats for about 18months. I grew up on a 1000acre
property in country NSW – Bathurst. My parents bred
Arabians in the 1970’s to late 80’s. I believe I was
extremely lucky to have been brought up on a working
horse breeding farm, and have never been without a horse
(or three!) in my life. I moved to Sydney in December
2001…to explore the bright lights of the city. You can
take the girl out of the country, but you can never take
the country out of the girl!
I
currently live in Box Hill with my partner Paul, and our
two Jack Russell Terriers, one moggy cat, and two horses
all on 2 ½ acres.
Since
moving to Sydney I have become a Riding for Disabled
Association (RDA) coach at the Ryde Centre and volunteer
at the centre 2nd and 4th
Saturday’s of each month. This is very rewarding
activity and I have a couple of riders that compete at
both Regional and State Level RDA competitions,
including both Dressage and Mounted Games.

Unfortunately
I suffered a rather nasty fall in November last year, and
discovered that at nearly 30, I don’t bounce like I did in my
teenage years. Since then my riding confidence has suffered
immensely. I have been lucky enough to ‘acquire’ two (older)
gentlemen in the form of Diesel – a beautiful 16yo QH gelding,
and Duke – a 16yo Appaloosa gelding. The hope is that these two
boys will allow me to regain the confidence and get back out not
only competing, but also having fun…Hoofbeats fun!” |

× Dodi Rogan,
Vice President, Dressage Coordinator & Web site
Hi, I am Dodi, & I joined
Hoofbeats in August 2005, straight after one of our lovely
cob mares was started under saddle. Hoofbeats' gave me a
great opportunity to get a very young & green horse out &
about (Chandon, pictured left top). I live at Ebenezer with my husband, our two
daughters, ten horses (at last count) three dogs, two
kittens and a chicken. We breed Welsh Cob's (section D's) &
spend most of our time at Ag shows, or at Hoofbeats. Both of
our daughters attend Pony Club, so when we aren't 'Hoofbeating'
or showing we are at pony club!
My husband recently bought
me a lovely dressage hack for my birthday, (Teo pictured
left), so aside from our Cob's I am enjoying riding a nice
quiet gentleman, who has lots of experience. Although I have
been riding since I was a child; following the birth of our
children, & a couple of nasty falls off young 'just-broken'
horses very recently (& a broken tailbone) my
confidence has taken a backward step or two. "Teo" &
Hoofbeats is my recipe to recovery, & I'm loving every
minute of it.

Robyn Reed, Rally Days Ø
My
passion for horses has existed for as long as I can
remember. I drove my parents to distraction constantly
asking for a pony. The fact that we lived in a flat was
irrelevant to me. Finally they agreed that I could have
a pony if I saved up for one. At 10 years of age, I had
saved enough to purchase a pony & all the essential
gear, so mum & dad got stuck with the agistment & feed
bills. I spent the next eight years progressing through
Pony Club & competing at shows.
I
joined Hoofbeats about 6 years ago at a time when I
didn't have a horse. I had a go at running the Show
Jumping for one year, then enjoyed running the Rally
Days for a couple of years. I was overwhelmed with the
number of Hoobeaters who offered me a horse to ride for
different events. In August 2005, Helen Hackett & I,
leased Bobby from club member Juliet Burnett & he is
such fun to ride, that I am taking rest from the
committee to enjoy him to the fullest. However in the
New Year if someone offers to help so that I can still
ride, I could be persuaded to get involved with Rally
Days again.

× Dee Thornthwaite, Trail
Ride OrganiserHi
Everyone, my name is Deidre Thornthwaite, but my friends
just call me Dee. I am in charge of trail rides for
Hoofbeats and the more I ride, the more I want to ride !
I did not get anywhere near a
horse until I was 41 years old, but I am doing my best to
make up for all that lost time. My theme for everything is,
"18 till I die" as Brian Adams put it so well in his famous
song.
I have done a fair bit of riding
the Blue Mountains area and out as far as Capertee, just
magnificent country, we are so lucky to call this place
home. I worked for some years in the Megalong Valley as a
trail guide, and I have 3 beautiful horses, "Cheyenne Little
Brave", 21 year old grey Arab X Mountain Pony (with grunt),
he is such a show off ! " Aztec Banjo" 18 year old bay
Anglo-Arab X ("Man from Snowy River") type, who I used as my
guide horse when I was working in the Megalong and I have a
28 year old grey Appaloosa called "Apache Smoke", who I
don't ride often but some of my friends use, and he goes
like a rocket.
As you might have noticed by the
names of my horses I have a great passion for the Native
American Indian.
Last year I rode down in the
Snowy Mountains High Country with Blue Mountains Trail
Riding Club and it was fantastic, cant wait to be able to
return and do that again. I live at Yarraman, Yarramundi
with my hubby and horses. I have a grown up family, 2
daughters and 1 son and I have a grandson and a
granddaughter.
I hope to see you one day at a
Hoofbeats trail ride and get to share the greatest horse
experience of them all with you. TRAIL RIDING !!
